Project:
When I first came to know that I was carrying not one but two lives inside me, my happiness had no limits. Every mother dreams of holding her child, and I felt doubly blessed, imagining the joy of raising two daughters together.
I used to dream about how they would play together, sleep side by side, and how my home would echo with their laughter. My husband and I would talk for hours, making plans for their future, never once thinking that something so rare and terrifying could be waiting for us.
On the day of their birth, I was nervous but full of hope. But the moment I first saw my daughters, my world turned upside down. Instead of two tiny babies lying separately, I saw them joined together. My heart sank. Doctors told us that my little angels, Riya and Priya, are Omphalo-ischiopagus conjoined twin, joined from below the belly and pelvis. I was shocked, numb, unable to understand how this could happen.
One part of me wanted to hold them tightly and never let go, while the other part was terrified of what the future held.
Since that moment, life has not been easy. Every simple thing that normal parents do with their babies has become a challenge for us. Feeding them, holding them, or even nursing them is so complicated and painful to watch.
Sometimes when one cries, the other gets disturbed, and I feel so helpless not being able to comfort them both the way they deserve. I look at their innocent faces and ask myself, “Why my daughters? Why these little souls who have done nothing but come into this world”
The doctors explained to us that they might share critical organs. Their survival without surgery is very uncertain. The only hope is a highly complex and risky separation surgery, which can give them both a chance to live independent and healthy lives.
But the cost of this treatment, ₹47.75 lakhs, is something beyond what we could even dream of arranging.
My husband works as a daily-wage labourer, earning just ₹300 a day. This income is hardly enough for food, let alone medicines or hospital bills. We belong to a simple family, with no savings or resources to face something this huge. Each time I see the hospital bills and hear the doctors talk about the surgery, I feel my heart breaking into pieces.
As a mother, I am ready to give my life for my children, but today I stand helpless, unable to save them on my own. All we want is to see Riya and Priya live. To see them grow, to walk, to play like other children, to have a childhood that isn’t spent inside hospital walls. But for this miracle to happen, we need your support.
I fold my hands as a mother and beg you with all my heart, please help us. Help us give our daughters a chance to live. Your support, your kindness, your prayers can make the impossible possible for little Riya and Priya.
