“Don’t Let This Baby Grow Up Helpless, Support His Surgery”

When we first held our little boy, Charvik, in our arms, our hearts were filled with a joy we had never known before. He is our first child, a blessing we had prayed for, dreamed of, and waited for with so much hope. 

Like every parent, we had dreams, dreams of watching him grow up healthy, playing with other children, going to school, holding a pencil in his tiny hand to write his first letters, and someday, growing into a strong, independent young man.

But fate had something else written. The day he was born, our happiness was mixed with shock. Charvik was born with a condition called club hands. His tiny, delicate hands, the very hands we thought would one day hold onto ours for strength, were not like other babies’. Our joy turned into fear. We didn’t know what his future would look like, and as parents, it shattered us inside.

Soon after, complications worsened his condition, and doctors had to amputate the thumb of his right hand. We tried to stay strong, but every time we looked at him, smiling innocently at us, our hearts broke.

We feared the questions that would come to his mind one day: “Why was I born like this? Why me?” We feared the pain he might feel when he realizes he cannot do things as easily as other children.

We had always imagined his childhood filled with play, laughter, and learning. We wanted to give him an education that would shape his future. But now, even the thought of him not being able to hold a simple pencil or pen terrifies us.

Will our little boy be able to write? Will he be able to eat on his own? Will he be able to play without feeling left out? These questions haunt us day and night.

As parents, we want nothing more than to give him a normal, happy life. And doctors at Abhinav Balaji Hospital in Ghaziabad have given us a ray of hope. They suggested surgery and rehabilitation that can help Charvik use his hands more effectively as he grows.

 It feels like a miracle is within reach, a chance for our baby to live life with dignity, independence, and hope. But then, reality hits us. The surgery and rehabilitation cost around ₹4–5 lakhs.

My husband works as a daily-wage labourer, earning just ₹8,000 a month, barely enough to manage food and rent. I try to support the family by making tikli bindis at home, but it’s so little compared to what is needed. For families like ours, such an amount is not just high, it feels impossible.

We look at Charvik’s smile every day, and it gives us strength to keep going. But behind that smile, we see his future slipping away if we cannot get him this treatment. We do not want him to grow up feeling helpless or asking himself why his parents couldn’t give him the chance he deserved. We want him to know that his life is just as precious, just as valuable as any other child’s.
